When Jesus Christ began his ministry of three and a half years nearly 2000 years ago, he went about preaching the Kingdom of God. “Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel’” (Mark 1:14-15). Later, when he sent his disciples out he commanded them to preach, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 10:7).
The good news concerning the establishing of the Kingdom of God was the focal point of Christ’s ministry. The underlying theme of the entire Bible is in the establishment of the world ruling government or Kingdom of God. All of God’s true servants have looked forward to the establishment of God’s Kingdom. It has been a subject of primary concern to all of them, without exception, from the very beginning (Hebrews 11:13-16). These all sought the promise — the same promise every Christian should seek, an inheritance in God’s Kingdom (Hebrews 12:28).
The constant theme of the Old Testament as well as the New Testament is, either explicitly or implicitly, the Kingdom of God. The Scriptures of the prophets proclaim the Kingdom of God. Paul taught about the Kingdom of God and its King, Jesus Christ, from the law and the prophets (Acts 28:23). It should not be surprising then that the Kingdom or government of God or various features of the Kingdom of God are typified throughout the Old Testament. The principle of duality runs throughout the Bible, the spiritual being often typified by the physical. Over and over again in various incidents in the Bible you see the same principles being applied, the same patterns of behavior emerging, you find revealed in these patterns and examples the eternal mind of God, which never varies, never deviates from the truth which he has understood by his infinite wisdom and the purpose which shall be established by his unlimited power.
In this message Rod Reynolds reviews some of the scriptures from the Old Testament where God’s Kingdom is in some fashion alluded to or typified, showing that it could certainly be declared in truth that the major theme and focus of the entire Bible is God’s Kingdom.
